Det påminner mig om den uppgivna kommentaren av Nancy Kress efter novellen här:
I was astounded at the various ways that people interpreted my story. It was seen as anti-nano, pro-nano, anti-male, pro-green, Luddite, overly glorifying of “heroic single mothers,” unrealistic, very realistic, too short, and too long.
I tell my writing students that the main task of writing is to transfer the vision in one’s head onto paper in order that it may be re-created in the reader’s head. My experience with this story showed me, all over again, how impossible that goal really is. The author can narrow the head-to-paper gap, but the story will always take on a different cast as it traverses the mysterious abyss between people.
